Suffering an illness or injury that renders you unable to work can be a devastating and life altering ordeal for you and your family, particularly if you do not have insurance.
However, you may be entitled to make a claim for total and permanent disablement (TPD) or income protection through your superannuation fund.
Many Superannuation funds include these types of insurance for members by default and it may be that you are covered without actually being aware.
If you are injured, regardless of the circumstances of the injury, you may be entitled to make a claim, even if you are also entitled to make a claim under another scheme, like workers compensation or CTP insurance.
Further, you may be entitled to make a TPD claim even if you have the capacity to work, but your injury or illness prevents you working in your current occupation. For example, a bricklayer injures his shoulder and can no longer work in the building industry but is able to retrain in another field. Depending on the policy, he may be entitled to make a TPD claim.
